Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The standout feature of King Edwards is undoubtedly the fresh, flaky cod, enveloped in a perfectly crisp batter. Diners rave about the generous portion sizes — one large chips is likely enough for four adults, which makes it a great value. The delightful children’s meal presented with a bucket and spade twists the traditional dining experience into a playful adventure. Many appreciate the quick service despite busy hours, with a hearty offering of condiments like vinegar and salt available at every table. Patrons also love the nod towards nostalgia with classic sides like mushy peas and pickled onions, which enhance the overall experience.

Their curry sauce is another crowd-pleaser, with flavors that pair beautifully with their dishes. The cleanliness of the establishment and the attentive, friendly service also gather numerous affirming remarks, reinforcing why this spot remains a beloved choice.

Most Disliked

One of the few complaints about King Edwards relates to the queues during peak times, especially on weekends. Many have noted that Saturday evenings can reach 100% capacity, leaving little room for last-minute diners. While the atmosphere can be lively, some might find it a challenge to locate seating during busy hours, particularly if opting for a dine-in meal. The absence of table service may dissuade those looking for a more traditional sit-down experience or late diners arriving during peak service.

Another point of contention is the overwhelming portion sizes. While many enjoy the value, some guests find it challenging to finish their meals and wish for smaller options, particularly for those dining solo or who prefer lighter meals.

We tried this fish and chips take away place and loved it. The fish was very good. Large, and tasty. Lovely big flakes of cod. The batter to fish ratio was very good. Great curry sauce too. Our portions of chips were enormous. One large chips is big enough for four adults.

Fish and chips were really tasty and fresh. I had cod and the fillet was so soft and the batter was perfect crunchy. Big portion. Try to avoid peak hours to avoid long queues.

We decided on a traditional fish and chip lunch and after walking past many we spotted the King Edwards. We ordered a cod and small chips with mushy peas, pickled egg and pickled onion. We were sharing as we wanted to leave room for dinner. When it arrived, the fish was huge and juicy and the batter was crisp and golden. It's a good thing we didn't order one each as we were stuffed. The restaurant itself was cosy and very clean. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating in regards to us sharing. The owner took the time to give us a brief history of the establishment. The big one, the toilets were absolutely spotless, a tell tale clue as to how hygiene is managed. I highly recommend King Edwards.

Amazing friendly service Clean restaurant and take away The food was spot on mushy peas where perfect, cod was not greasy and the chips were fluffy inside and crispy outside. If anything too many chips as I didn't finish them all And it's not just fish & chips the menu is full of delicious stuff if you don't like fish.
